In addition to Northfield Bank, Northfield Bancorp, Inc. also owns Northfield Investments, Inc., a New Jersey investment company, which currently is inactive. The Bank’s principal business consists of gathering deposits, and to a lesser extent, borrowing funds, and using such funds to originate multifamily real estate loans and commercial real estate loans, purchase investment securities including mortgage-backed securities and corporate bonds, as well as depositing funds in other financial institutions. It also offers, to a lesser extent, construction and land loans, commercial and industrial loans, one- to four-family residential mortgage loans, and home equity loans and lines of credit. Deposits are the Bank’s primary source of funds for its lending and investing activities. The Bank also uses borrowings as a source of funds, principally from the securities sold under agreements to repurchase (repurchase agreements) with third party financial institutions and Federal Home Loan Bank of New York (FHLB) advances.Â
