Zotero is an open-source research tool operated by Corporation For Digital Scholarship that collects, organizes, and analyzes research in a variety of ways. It includes parts of reference manager software such as the ability to store author, title, and publication fields and to export that information as formatted references — and aspects of software and web applications, such as the ability to organize, tag, and search in advanced ways. The platform interacts with online resources by sensing when a book, article, or other objects on the web are being viewed, it can automatically extract and save bibliographic references. Zotero transmits information to and from other web services and applications, and it runs both as a web service and offline on personal devices.
