Formed as the Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Carroll County in 1870, Westminster American Insurance Company originally wrote only local home and farm owners’ policies.Today, WAIC is a leader in the Mid-Atlantic insurance industry, with Certificates of Authority in Maryland, DC, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, Kentucky, and Georgia.Westminster American Insurance Company (“WAIC”) was chartered in Maryland in 1870 as the Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Carroll County (also known as “Carroll County Mutual,” or “CCM”). The founding purpose was to protect the interests of home and farm owners in rural Carroll County, Maryland. For more than a century, CCM enjoyed modest success as a mutual carrier.In 2005, after emerging from state-supervised rehabilitation, WAIC restructured the entire company with an underwriting focus on commercial real estate in Maryland, DC, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey.
