Townsend is the leader in the field of addiction treatment in Louisiana, using the most innovative treatment models and genetic research to help thousands of individuals achieve recovery. At Townsend, we understand that addiction is a chronic, progressive brain-based disease that is typically self-medicated with alcohol, drugs, gambling, compulsive overeating, and other substances and behaviors. Thus, even if the substance use and behaviors stop, the primary symptoms of addiction will still be present. Currently there is no cure for addiction, but there is hope at Townsend. Our treatment centers are focused on achieving remission of symptoms which will stop a person from seeking drugs or engaging in other behaviors to feel better. Townsend accomplishes this through an intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment program that will help patients to reach recovery and its maintenance through a chronic disease management plan. Townsend’s outpatient program is a true alternative to inpatient treatment, giving patients the opportunity to recover from addiction without leaving their family or job. Most Townsend programs are in the evening, with some day-time availability, and are designed for the busy student or professional. Townsend helps patients find ways of coping with their symptoms through active engagement in successful therapeutic programming and medical care for lifetime recovery. Each site’s clinical staff, comprised of licensed physicians and counselors, work as a team to provide you individualized care to fit your specific needs. Our unique model of treatment delivers the highest quality of services and makes treatment more effective and affordable than other alternatives. Unlike rehab, we treat the underlying condition using The Townsend Way. This revolutionary method is the result of Dr. Howard Wetsman’s dissatisfaction with standard treatments that failed to help many of his patients. An expert in the field of addiction medicine, Dr. Wetsman pioneered the use of genetic testing and proprietary medical monitoring to collect scientific data. At Townsend, we use Dr. Wetsman’s groundbreaking innovations to rapidly address and stabilize addiction and related complications. Consequently, patients feel better fast and successfully complete treatment at the highest levels in the treatment industry. Keeping true to our mantra of “democratizing addiction treatment”, Townsend is continuously working toward improving access to effective and affordable treatment for the disease of addiction. With this goal in mind, Townsend was named the fastest growing company in Louisiana for the years 2011 and 2012 according to Inc. Magazine and was honored as an LSU 100 company. Townsend has been awarded numerous other honors including Top Doctor from New Orleans Magazine and Health Care Hero from CityBusiness Newspaper. Townsend has outpatient treatment centers in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Covington, Lafayette, Houma and Metairie and plans to expand access to treatment by opening additional locations in the near future.
