If life were a race, it’s fair to say that the starting lines at birth are unevenly distributed. Billions of people never have a real shot at a purposeful and productive life because of insurmountable hurdles like access to quality education and basic healthcare. The byproduct of this is an increasingly entrenched establishment that favors its own and tilts the system towards a few versus the many. It’s a system that can no longer optimize around the best and brightest. And when people are deprived of an opportunity to excel and contribute, we all lose.
We believe this status quo is unacceptable. At Social Capital, our mission is to advance humanity by solving the world’s hardest problems. By harnessing technology to address core human needs, we aim to drive a bottom-up redistribution of power, capital and opportunity. To achieve this, we’re building a new kind of company and a platform for empowering brilliant entrepreneurs and breakthrough products. We are technologists and invest our capital and expertise across the company lifecycle, from promising early stage startups to transformational public companies. And where we see important problems that aren’t being solved, we are unafraid to start companies ourselves.
The change we seek won’t happen overnight. This is a decades-long endeavor, and the work will never be done. Success can only come if we live by a stringent and unapologetic set of values. These values are reflected in the company we’re building and the entrepreneurs we choose to partner with.
