SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is a Department of Energy national research facility operated by Stanford University (also known as The Leland Stanford Junior University). It is devoted to experimental and theoretical research in elementary particle physics, the development of new techniques in high-energy accelerators and elementary particle detectors, and research using synchrotron radiation. The laboratory also focuses on X-ray and ultrafast science, interface science, astrophysics, cosmology, and other areas.
