Shape Memory Medical is a medical device company. It is developing novel peripheral vascular and neurovascular embolization devices based on a new technology – Shape Memory Polymer (SMP) foams. Such foams are porous polymeric materials capable of changing from one shape to a second ‘memorized’ shape upon a change of environment. This means SMP foams can be created in a size and shape compatible with catheter delivery, but expand when inserted into a blood vessel. It is a great alternative to traditional embolization coils and plugs when treating patients with peripheral vascular and neurovascular disease states.
