Ever heard the HSS story? It began in 1957 when Bert Taylor lent his sister a ladder and decided it could be a great opportunity. Seems he was right. The business grew and grew, from one shop in Kensington to expansion throughout the UK. Today, over 50 years later, HSS provides an ever increasing range of tools and equipment for trade and DIY customers and big businesses alike, together with training services, managed equipment plans, and HSS LiveHire - one of the most powerful tools in the hire industry. We now operate over 270 locations nationwide, and HSS.com is the industry’s first fully transactional website enabling customers to click and collect, see live availability, and find their nearest branch. More than anything, it’s a story about our people. Or our HSSers, as we call them. While we’re committed to customer service, we’re proud to believe that our people are just as important. That’s why we not only make sure we recruit the right people - we also made sure everyone’s happy, whether they’ve joined us at the heart of our business in our branches, helped us take a strategic approach as a manager, or driven us forward in one of our back office support teams. In fact, all 2500 of us have everything we need to do our jobs successfully, confidently and safely. Our business is grounded on four key principles that drive us every day – Safety, Value, Availability, and Support. Our generous benefits programme includes life assurance and healthcare for all HSSers, and free hire on all of our core range of products. And those who achieve 5 years of continuous service can look forward to a long service cash reward that grows with every consecutive 5 years from then on. But being part of the story means living and breathing a unique mix of can-do attitude, skills, values and ambitions. It’s the best of who we are and it’s what sets us apart from others in the industry. It’s called HSSness... and if you’ve got it, we’d love to hear from you.
