Organic photovoltaic films contain no toxic materials or heavy metals. They are thin, light and flexible, weighing just 0.5kg per square metre – making them suitable for use on a wide range of building facades and in automotive. They perform well in low light conditions and do not loose performance with rising temperatures. Heliatek's organic photovoltaics hold the world record of 12% for efficiency. Heliatek is the first company to start commercial volume production of solar films.
Heliatek is engaged in the development and production of organic solar cells.
Heliatek GmbH was founded in 2006 by Dr. Martin Pfeiffer, Prof. Dr. Karl Leo and Dr. Bert Mannig of the Institut for Angewandte Photophysik (IAPP), University Dresden, by Prof. Dr. Peter Bauerle of the Abteilung Organische Chemie II, University of Ulm, Jens Drechsel, CreaPhys GmbH and Dr. h.c Harald Eggers. The company relies on more than 15 years experience in the development and characterisation of organic materials and organic devices.
Heliatek has got a seed-investment of 500 000 from the High-Tech Gründerfonds and 100000 from Dr. h.c. Harald Eggers.
