Bionic Vision Technologies develops visual prostheses to restore vision to the blind. The BVT product pipeline consists of two generations of devices which aim to increase mobility and independence of patients and give increasing visual acuity. The devices operate by electrically stimulating the remaining retinal cells in patients with retinal degeneration. The devices consist of a camera, attached to a pair of glasses, an externally worn vision processing unit and an electrode array implanted behind the retina. The camera captures the image and transmits the data first to the vision processing unit and then to the electrode array.
