Grown in the Western Cape of South Africa, rooibos tea is packed with antioxidants and nutrients. The rooibos tea, (pronounced ROY-BOS), the word actually means “red bush” and it is what many refer to as “red tea.” It is not a tea in the standard definition, but rather a legume similar to peas, beans and lentils. Rooibos contains endless health benefits that South African families have revered for generations. Rooibos naturally contains no caffeine, and unlike black or green tea has very little tannins or bitter qualities giving it a subtle sweetness. It is high in two powerful antioxidants: aspalathin and nothofagin. These powerhouses may help fight against heart disease, inflammation, high blood pressure and cholesterol. Its unique minerals include magnesium, calcium, manganese, zinc and iron that benefit the nervous and skeletal systems and may help with digestion, metabolism and circulation.
