The Level 2 Baking Apprenticeship involves learning the basics about bread and cake making. The course involves practical sessions of in-kitchen baking with tutor demonstrations and support. Students also learn theory based class room knowledge of in-bakery processes and health and safety legislation which can be applied well when working in the factory at Bells. Successful completion of this apprenticeship has meant many students have progressed up the career ladder with Bells and have continued onto the Level 3 Baking apprenticeship.
During the Level 3 Baking apprenticeship, students have a more proactive role in creating their own recipes and bakery goods. Students prepare and plan a full scale Product Development Project; researching in-field trends and developing new products from scratch. These ideas are presented to our senior management team with weekly tasting panels. A final product is selected from each student’s portfolio to be rolled out across a bakery production run to see how it would work on a larger scale.
The Engineering apprentices will be attending college to learn manual skills such as: manufacturing, welding and fabrication as well as electrical skills. They will shadow experienced engineers as well as attend college on a regular basis. Due the vast range of baked goods we produce and the pace at which we innovate our products, our engineers must constantly adapt our machinery to accomodate these changes.
